Karnataka to install CCTV cameras in courts

The Karnataka government today decided to install CCTV cameras to maintain surveillance in courts as a measure to scale up security against the backdrop of yesterday's bomb blasts outside Delhi High Court.

A high level meeting chaired by Home Minister R Ashoka with top officials of the Home Department here reviewed the security issues and discussed the measures to be adopted.

Talking to reporters, Ashoka said as a first step CCTV cameras would be installed at the high court and later in lower courts.

Ashoka, who visited the high court and reviewed the security arrangements along with Chief Justice JS Khehar and Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs S Suresh Kumar, said it has been decided to ban parking of vehicles in the vicinity of the high court.

Only judges and court staff would be permitted to enter through the main gate, advocates and litigants will have to pass through the rear gate, he said.

He said the 80-member command force raised by the state for deployment during emergencies would undertake march around high court, Vidhana Soudha and its annexe Vikas Soudha, which houses the secretariat shortly to instill confidence among people.

The High Level meeting was attended by Home Secretary S Jamdar, DGP N Achuta Rao, City Police Commissioner Jyoti Prakash Mirji and others.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda said police have been asked to step up security at all sensitive locations.

Meanwhile Police Commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji told reporters here that security has been beefed up in and around the high court, shopping malls, railway station, bus terminals and other public places. He said police personnel have been deputed on round-the-clock vigil and a number of restrictions have been imposed in and around high court premises from today. Places in front of the court have been identified for public movement and certain places have been restricted for public entry, he said.

As many as five baggage scanners, besides CCTVs have been installed in Court premises. Quick Reaction police teams have been deployed in the premises and surrounding areas, he said.

Barring High Court Judges' vehicles, no other vehicles will be allowed to be parked in the high court,he added.
