The state government will soon hold a meeting with oil companies to discuss the delay in supplying LPG cylinders in the city.

Energy and food and civil supplies minister Shobha Karandlaje said: "Last time, oil companies' representatives told us that LPG supply got delayed due to lorry owners' protest and that they needed time to fill the backlog. I will call a meeting of oil company representatives to apprise them of the difficulties faced by residents."

Now, after booking, residents have to wait for 35 to 40 days to get gas cylinders. Agencies supplying LPG are coming up with various excuses for the delay.

Sathish Kumar, a resident of Vijayanagar, said: "I get LPG cylinders from Indane. Delay in supply of cooking gas started after the state government ordered agencies to compulsory take RR numbers and other documents from users. Whenever we approach agencies, they say supply of cylinders is inadequate to meet the demand."

Meanwhile, getting a new connection has become cumbersome, especially for those who have come to the city in search of jobs.
The minister said: "We have written a letter to the prime minister, requesting the central government to direct oil companies to streamline the process of providing gas connections.

“Based on the letter, the central government has directed companies to check illegal cooking gas connections. Even states like Odisha and West Bengal studied our initiative to curb illegal practices followed by agencies. Earlier, we asked users to submit RR numbers to gas agencies to check illegal gas supply. Unfortunately, we had to discontinue the process due to political pressure."

The government had suspended 32.32 lakh cooking gas connections that were found illegal.

However, the suspension order did not come in to effect owing to political pressure.
