The JD(S) filed yet another complaint against chief minister BS Yeddyurappa on Saturday, alleging that by espousing the cause of farmers, he issued sites to influential persons. This has allegedly bled the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) of Rs400 crore.

JD(S) spokesperson and MLC, YSV Datta, has filed a compliant with the lok ayukta and sought a detailed inquiry. “With an intention of shifting a retail steel plant and developing a new layout, the BDA acquired 172 acres in Kondadasanapura, Bangalore South taluk, in 1996. The BDA distributed compensation to farmers who surrendered their land for the layout. But till 1997, the BDA did not develop the land, nor did it protect it. Some influential persons have encroached upon that land,” said Datta in his complaint.

Meanwhile, in the garb of allotting sites to farmers, the government issued 160 sites to influential persons without following rules and regulations, he added. Though the BDA and urban development department secretary submitted dissenting notes, Yeddyurappa allotted sites to his well-wishers. This has resulted in a loss of Rs400 crore, he alleged. “The public is not getting BDA sites, but the chief minister is giving sites to those who use influence. Also, the BDA is facing a financial crunch. This is a scandal and the Lokayukta should conduct a through inquiry,” said Datta.

‘CM colluded miners’
Meanwhile, Congress leader VS Ugrappa has alleged that chief minister BS Yeddyurappa colluded with illegal mine-owners. Hence, he is hesitant to take action against illegal mine-owners, he said. “The Central Empowered Committee (CEC) named peoples’ representatives and officers involved in illegal mining. But the chief minister has not initiated action” he added.

The state has issued an order that no mining activity should be conducted within 100 meters of any forest area, but in Sandur and Hospet, 17 mining companies violated the order, said Ugrappa.
