Two miscreants attacked a goldsmith at his shop at Makkala Layout in Nagarathpet and fled with `12 lakh in cash on Monday night.

In a complaint filed with Ulsoor Gate police station, Prakash Gadagi, 30, owner of Chandrasena Silver Refiners, said two miscreants, who came on a motorcycle, stopped by his shop and enquired about the route ahead. As he was trying to explain the route, they sprayed pepper powder on his face, hit on his neck and hands with a blunt metal object and fled with cash worth Rs12 lakh.

“My shop is at the end of the road. When the miscreants enquired about the route, I thought they got confused and tried to help them, but they robbed my money after attacking me,” Gadagi said.

“I had Rs5 lakh with me in addition to Rs7 lakh brought from Anand Jewellers in Baba Market. I was counting the money when the miscreants came,” he said.

“As they were wearing helmets to partly hide their faces, I suspect someone known to me committed the offence,” he added.
