A six-member gang hacked a criminal to death in Ramanna Garden, under the jurisdiction of Silver Jubilee Park police station, on Tuesday.

The deceased, Velu, 30, was a resident of Ramanna Garden and fruit vendor in City Market. There were many cases registered against him in City Market police station.

Deputy commissioner of police (Central), G Ramesh, said the gang attacked Velu at 5.30am while Velu was on his way to pray at an Ayyappa temple.

Ramesh said the assaulters covered their faces with monkey caps and scarves.

The police said the gang planned the murder after observing Velu’s movements for a few days. Velu had vowed to visit Sabarimala Ayyappa temple in Kerala. He performed puja at Ayyappa temple in Ramanna Garden every morning.

Velu was attacked after he came out of his hut. The gang members attacked him with machetes and other weapons.
Velu sustained injuries to his head, abdomen and shoulder. He died instantly, the police said.

Velu was lying in a pool of blood when the police reached the spot. The body was handed over to his family members after postmortem.

The DCP (central) has formed a team to nab the murderers. The police have tightened security at Kalasipalyam, City Market and SJ Park to avoid any untoward incident in the backdrop of the murder.
