Parents and students can breathe a sigh of relief. The 2nd pre-university exam’s answersheets will be evaluated by the lecturers from Monday. It was announced on Sunday that 2nd PU lecturers had temporarily withdrawn their exam evaluation boycott following an assurance from the state government that their demands would be met.

The announcement comes after a meeting held between the Karnataka State PU College Lecturers’ Association and Coordination Committee and Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri.

Thimmaiah Purle, president of the teachers’ association, said they had spoken to the minister and assured him that they would get back to evaluation work till Thursday, by which their demands should be met.

High on the list of the lecturers’ demands is disparity in pay between PU lecturers and lecturers of degree colleges. “We have several other demands, but the most important one that has to be addressed immediately is the disparity in the salaries. The education minister has said that there will be a cabinet meeting with the chief minister wherein they will discuss this matter,” he added.

However, if the state does not fulfil the demands by Thursday, Purle said the lecturers would be left with little choice but to resume their boycott. “If by Thursday nothing happens, then the lecturers will stop evaluating answer scripts from Friday,” he added.
