An ex-MLA from Bijapur district has filed a theft case in the Chamarajpet police station.

The complaint was lodged two years after he lost his imported mobile phone and a watch worth Rs6.46 lakh and Rs2.8 lakh, respectively.

According to the police, former MLA Ravikanatha Patil is now residing in Chamarajpet, and he had filed a theft complaint after almost two years . Although the theft happened in April 2009, the complaint was filed on February 23 this year.

In his complaint, Patel stated that his so-called friend Tousif A Sheik, a resident of Sollapur and who is at present jailed in Maharashtra in connection with a cheating case, stayed at the former MLA’s house for two days in April 2009.

After he left, Patil discovered that his mobile phone and watch were missing. When he called Sheik, he confessed that he had taken both gadgets and promised to return them at the earliest.

This went for almost two years. Finally, Sheik told Patil that he has no plans of returning the gadgets. So Patil approached police commissioner Shankar M Bidari and gave a written complaint. Bidari reportedly directed the Chamarajpet police to register a case.

“We will get a body warrant from the court to take him into custody for investigation and will soon recover the stolen property,” an investigative officer said.
