BDA said farmers, who lost lands to Phase-1 of the project (Tumkur Road to Hosur Road), would get a revised compensation package as soon as the state government gave its nod.
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) on Monday issued a statement regarding compensation to farmers’ families which lost lands to the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project which was launched seven years ago in North Bangalore.
BDA said farmers, who lost lands to Phase-1 of the project (Tumkur Road to Hosur Road), would get a revised compensation package as soon as the state government gave its nod. The authority also said that such farmers would get developed sites (depending on the extent of land they have lost) in addition to compensation.
However, members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), who have decided to lay siege to the BDA head office in the city on Wednesday, are not ready to accept any such assurance from the authority.
“The BDA does not understand the problems of the farmers and the woes they are undergoing. We are going ahead with our protest,” said KRRS president Kodihalli Chandrashekhar.
KRRS and Hasiru Sene are demanding compensation to 1,800 farmers’ families which lost land to the PRR project planned in North Bangalore.
“The BDA had issued a notification for the acquisition of about 2,000 acres of agricultural land for the project seven years ago. The farmers have been waiting for the BDA to award compensation in vain,” said a member of Hasiru Sene. The BDA, in its release on Monday, said that the authority has written a letter to the state government in the wake of farmers demanding more compensation under the PRR project. As soon as it gets a nod for the same, the revised compensation would be announced. The authority said the additional amount being demanded by the farmers would be given in the form of ex gratia.
Seven years after BDA laid out the first plan of Phase I of PRR, the project is nowhere close to taking off due to land acquisition issues. After many changes in length, alignment and cost made over the years, BDA gave the final alignment in 2007.
The 65-km-long Phase I connects Tumkur Road to Hosur Road, intersecting Bellary Road, Old Madras Road and Sarjapur Road along the way. The plan for Phase II, which connects Hosur Road to Tumkur Road, intersecting Bannerghatta Road, Mysore Road and Magadi Road, is not yet finalised.
