Bangalore was set to receive heavy rain over the next 2-3 days due to the south-west monsoon coupled with a dip in temperatures, Indian meteorological department (IMD) officials said.
“Karnataka is experiencing heavy downpour due to the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation and heavy rainfall would occur during the next 48 hours,” B Puttanna, director of IMD-Bangalore said.
Currently, the upper air cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal, off Andhra Pradesh coast, is drifting towards the south-west and this may bring heavy downpour to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Bangalore will experience cloudy sky with thunder showers for the next 2-3 days and temperatures may dip below normal due to the presence of thick cloud cover and rainfall.
IMD has forecast more rainfall in South Karnataka and wide spread rainfall over coastal and North Karnataka coupled with thunder showers.
Puttanna added that the deputy commissioners, district officials and disaster management authority in the state have been informed of the forecast.
The city on Tuesday recorded a maximum of 26.8°C and a minimum of 20°C.
According to the IMD, the normal total rainfall for the month of August is 137 mm, but so far the city has received 78.3 mm.
