For Sanketh and Nishkal, the first anniversary was indeed special.
'We have been waiting eagerly for the Metro. After so many delays, when the date was finally fixed to October 20, we were elated,' said Nishkal.
The Metro finally began its journey across Reach-1, after postponing the inauguration at least five times.
Apart from the excitement of the thousands that gathered at the Metro station to take a ride on the much-awaited train, there was one couple, who thought it was their destiny to celebrate their wedding anniversary on the train.
For Sanketh and Nishkal, the first anniversary was indeed special.
“We have been waiting eagerly for the Metro. After so many delays, when the date was finally fixed to October 20, we were elated,” said Nishkal.
“We began making plans on how we were going to get on the first ride itself,” said Sanketh, a businessman.
“And so, when I got an invite for the inauguration, as a member of the FKCCI, I was thrilled. But the invite was only for one person.”
There was some running around to get the second invite, “But then I found out that my uncle also got an invite and he graciously decided to give it to us, when we told him our plan,” he said.
“We have been waiting for the Metro for a long time,” he added.
“To celebrate our first wedding anniversary on the Metro was the icing on the cake. What other way to make it memorable?” he said.
“The Metro is everything I wanted it to be. It is sophisticated, clean and hi-fi,” said Nishkal.
“The ride was amazing,” said Sanketh, whose office is located in City Market.
“I hope the Metro work is completed soon so that I can take the train to work every day. Although I have tried the Delhi Metro, this one is special because it is our own Metro.”
Spending our anniversary on the Metro was the highlight of the day, said Sanketh. In fact it was so special that the couple decided to take another ride on the Metro before ending their day.
Comparing the Metro to his marriage, he said, “Both are great. We hope both are equally successful and last a really long time.”
