The corridor of BBMP was buzzing with activities once again after the election of mayor and deputy mayor. This time it is for the selection of 12 standing committee chairmanships. Senior corporators and city MLAs were busy campaigning for their favourite candidates for major standing committees and also for ruling party leader post.

Apart from the ruling party leader post, town planning, taxation and finance, major works and ward works standing committee chairmanship posts are said to be in huge demand. The corporators are not leaving any stone unturned in wooing the MLAs to pressurise the district in-charge minister R Ashoka to select their candidature.

According to BBMP sources, Vijayanagar corporator H Ravindra is the front runner for the ruling party leadership. Ravindra, who has the support of housing minister, is also close to Ashoka. But Sunkenahalli Ward corporator PN Sadashiva who served as the taxation and finance committee chairman and Rajajinagar Ward corporator Gangabyraiah who was the Accounts committee chairman are also in the contest.

Sources also said that for plum committees like major works the BJP has selected Byrasandra ward corporator N Nagaraj. Doddanekkundi corporator Sridhar Reddy will get town planning as he is backed by Bommanahalli MLA M Satish Reddy.
Shivanagar corporator Manjunath is lobbying for taxation and finance committee.

Meanwhile, Mangammanapalya Ward corporator Syed Haseena Taj is eyeing for the market committee while the candidature of Aramane nagar Ward corporator MS Shivaprasad for the health committee has already been decided. Appeals committee, accounts committee, social justice, horticulture, education committee, administration and reforms committee, which are less ‘profitable’ will be given to first time corporators or corporators who has no option.

Mayoral aspirant not interested
Banashankari temple ward corporator, AH Basavaraju, who was one of the aspirants for the mayor post, is showing no interest in any standing committee. Source said that mayor Venkatesh Murthy and Basavaraju are not in good terms.

Murthy believes that Basavaraj is behind the newspaper reports of his illegal encroachment of Civic Amenity (CA) sites in the city. Before the mayor election, Murthy had complained to BJP party president KS Eshwarappa and home minister R Ashoka on Basavaraj conspiring against him.
