The speculation over the disappearance of three-year-old Rihan Pasha ended on Saturday, after his decomposed body was found in a stormwater drain near Madiwala Lake.

The police said the body was found at 7.30am when the watchman of the lake noticed a dog eating a body. He alerted the police, who rushed to the spot along with the boy’s parents.

Rihan’s father Siddiq Pasha and mother Zabina Taj identified the body from the clothes he had worn when he went missing on February 14. “The body was found 500m away from his house near Madiwala Lake dhobi ghat,” police inspector ML Purushotham said.

The shocked parents were inconsolable at the death of their son. “We lost my only son,” a sobbing Pasha said.

“We had hope that we may see the child again and thought he was kidnapped. But, we are very sad now to hear about his death,” a relative said.

Police said that the body was highly decomposed and a leg and hands were missing. They suspect that fish and dogs might have eaten those parts. The body was shifted to the Victoria Hospital and then handed over to the parents after a post-mortem examination.

The police are still waiting for the autopsy report to learn about the exact details as to how the child died.

The viscera of the body has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination and the report is expected in three months.

Twist in the tale
On February 16, Shoukath Ali, Rihan’s grandfather and father of Zabina Taj, who is the daughter of his first wife Shakeera Taj, had alleged that his second wife Noor Jan kidnapped Rihan over a property dispute.

He alleged that Noor Jan did not like his idea of gifting Zabina a house as a wedding present and demanded that that he instead give it to her.

This created a dispute between the first and the second wives.

He also claimed that, a week ago, Noor Jan allegedly threatened
Zabina to return the house that she got from her father as a gift. Noor Jan warned Zabina that if she failed to do so, she would be facing something drastic in a short time.

However, Noor Jan, who was taken into custody by the Madiwala police after a kidnap case was registered against her, denied the
allegations and told the police that she did not know anything about Rihan.
