The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police raided nine emission testing centers in the city and arrested eight persons for issuing fake certificates to motorists, police said on Sunday.
Police seized computers and other equipment used to conduct the emission test of vehicles.
The testing centres breached the norms set by the Union ministry of road transport and highways. The centres awarded certificates without proper testing of vehicles, and collected Rs120 for a certificate, against the stipulated fee of Rs65.
Police identified the arrested persons as Raju Basanthappa, 23, of Konanakunte Cross, Syed Fayaz Ahamed alias Imran, 23, and Nagaraj, 24, both residents of Sudhamanagar, Jagadish, 24, of CKC Garden, M Kumar, 24, of Fireworks Colony, Hanumanth, 23, of Talagadde, Santosh, 21, of Sanjayanagar and Irfan, 23, of Vyalikaval.
The raids were conducted on: Mahalakshmi Computerised Emission Testing Centre at Jayanagar II Block; DM and Sons Computerised Emission Testing Centre on Old Airport Road; Mathrusri Service Station and Computerised Emission Testing Centre on 17th Main, Subbanapalya near Banasavadi; Devaraja Enterprises and Computerised Emission Testing Centre at Bellandur; RB Computerised Emission Testing Centre at Koramangala; Gurukrupa Auto Service and Emission Testing Centre at BTM Layout; Sri Vighnesh Emission Testing Centre at Sanjayanagar; Santosh Service Station on MS Ramaiah Hospital Road; and Sangam Service Station and Computerised Emission Testing Centre at Vyalikaval.
