Police have taken into custody Sajjan Kumar, one of the main suspects behind the series of attacks on churches in and around Bangalore in 2008-2009.

The suspects had vandalised the church’s premises, desecrated statues of Jesus Christ, damaged doors and window panes of the church, set fire to the Bible, curtains of the church and a Maruti Omni can belonging to the parish priest and damaged the security guard’s room in churches at Yedavanahalli, and an Infant Jesus church at Huskurgate, as well.

The accused had also set fire to a two wheeler which was parked near Oasis Hotel where a christian prayer was being held.

At the time of the attacks, the Christian community leaders had held large scale protests against them. The government had ordered a CID probe into church attacks.

In light of the incidents, the Bangalore City police formed a special investigation team lead by VS D’Souza to apprehend those responsible for the crime. Through investigation, they uncovered credible information and apprehended Kumar, taking him into police custody.
