BJP leader and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis claimed on Sunday that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would win more seats in the 2019 elections than in 2014.

"The first phase of voting is over, and looking at the enthusiasm of people, it is clear that they have voted in favour of prime minister Narendra Modi. Under his leadership, the NDA will win the Lok Sabha elections in more seats than in 2014," Fadnavis said in a public meeting in Ahmedabad.

The Maharashtra chief minister met members of the Maharashtrian community, and appealed them to vote for the BJP in the elections. Earlier, he offered floral tributes at the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in Sarangpur.

He lauded the Gujarat model of development, and said that it had led to healthy competition between states.

Taking a jibe at Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Fadnavis said that he was making imaginary speeches. "TV serials begin with the disclaimer that All characters in this story are works of imagination. In a few days, TV channels will also run disclaimers 'Yeh bhashan kalpanik hai' (this speech is imaginary) before showing Rahul Gandhi's speeches," he said.
