With Gujarat University taking the e-way to systematise admissions to its various courses, life will be much easier now for the many aspirants to its five courses.

They will not only be saved from the hassle of coming to the varsity to get the forms etc, but the student-friendly services will also help the colleges from completing the admission process in time.

If everything goes as per the plan, students seeking admission to GU’s five courses – Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Computer Application, and self finance courses like Master of Science IT course and Master of Business Administration – will only need to tax their fingers while filling up their forms, not their pockets. Students aiming to get admission in colleges in Ahmedabad will just have to log into the varsity’s website to get admission form, get PIN number from bank, fill it up and submit the form online with their contact details. The students will only need to come to city to get confirmation of their admission and pay the fee, if by then the varsity fails to finalise its banking partner in the system.

Pro vice chancellor of GU, Dr Mukul Shah said that the varsity’s plans to implement partial online admission process has already started.

“We aim to complete the process before the admission season begins. This year, plan is to make admissions for colleges in Ahmedabad online. It will not only save students time, money and efforts but will also save efforts for college authorities,” said Shah.

The move is also seen as a step to free the admission process from influence. Officials said, they have received many complaints in the past of politicians and influential people creating ruckus and problems for the college authorities. If the online system is implemented, the college authorities – especially in BCom stream – will surely be relieved.

There are nearly 48 colleges of BCom in Ahmedabad, said Shah, adding that while BBA and BCA has 60 seats each, self finance courses of MSc I-T and MBA have 200 per batch intake for each course.
The online admission process for five course is similar to that of engineering and pharmacy courses, implemented by the Admission Commitee for Professional Courses (ACPC).
