Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday urged people to reduce usage of oil in daily food and reuse cooking oil to make biodiesel. The CM said this at the ‘Swasth Bharat Mela, Ahmedabad’, which was held in Kankaria Lakefront under the Health and Family Welfare Ministry’s new initiative ‘Eat Right’. He also launched a mobile van, which will be used specifically to collect used from eateries to be converted into biofuel.

“We are taking forward Prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India a healthy, clean and environment-friendly nation. We can begin with reducing the burden of buying crude oil from Gulf countries by recycling used cooking oil to make bio-diesel,” Rupani said.

He further said that the government will collect burnt and used cooking oil from food unit owners/ traders to make biodiesel. The Biodiesel Association of India has developed a software — Reuse of Cooking Oil Software — and a van that will collect such used oil.

He added: “When Narendrabhai (PM) envisioned a healthy nation and launched ‘Swasth Bharat Yatra’, we must take care for our own health.”
