After the brilliant performance by class XII students, it was time for more cheer on Thursday when the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the results for class X.

Not only have many city schools registered 100% results, but the number of students getting A1 grade and perfect 10 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) has also gone up. CGPA is the average of grade points obtained in five subjects (excluding the additional sixth subject).

Some of the city schools that have registered 100% results include Maharaja Agrasen, St Kabir, Udgam and Rachna to mention a few. The number of students scoring A1 grade (9.1 to 10 CGPA) too is significantly higher.

Officials of Delhi Public School, Bopal, said that of the total 300 students who appeared for the exam, 60 (or 20%) got 10 CGPA. Thirty students of Udgam school got A1 grade.

Among others who scored 10 CGPA, 64 were from Maharaja Agrasen, 25 from St Kabir School, eight from Rachna School and 17 from Prakash school.

Of the total 44 branches of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Ahmedabad region, 40 registered 100% result, said deputy chairman of KV Sanghathan, Ahmedabad region P Devakumara.

“Around 246 students from all KVs have received 10 CGPA while four students got ‘eligible for improvement’ remarks. Thus, 2,950 of the total 2,954 students passed, taking the result to  99.86%,” said Devakumar.

He explained that this is third year since the implementation of the new system of continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE). Under this system, 40% of marks are for formative assessment and are given by schools while 60% are for summative assessment.

“Since schools also have a significant say in results, the stress level among students has gone down,” he claimed.

It should be noted that it is not compulsory for CBSE class X students to opt for board exams.
