Meet IAS Pratibha Verma, who battled serious health ailments to secure AIR 3rd rank in UPSC

IAS Pratibha Verma's story is a perfect example of overcoming obstacles in life. Belonging to the small town of Sultanpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh, she managed to secure All India third rank in the UPSC exam 2019. Though it looks easy, it was a long and troublesome journey for Pratibha who often fell ill during her preparation. Pratibha first became an engineer, then an IRS officer and later an IAS.

The biggest obstacle for her was that she was in a Hindi medium but that did not dim her light. After completing class 10 from the UP board and class 12 from the CBSE board, she moved to Delhi to complete her B.Tech from IIT Delhi.

Pratibha completed her B.Tech in 2014 and immediately got a job in a telecom company with a good salary. After working there for two years, she decided to leave the job and start preparing for UPSC exam.

 

3. Stayed in Delhi for IAS preparation:

After leaving the job in 2016, Pratibha decided to prepare for the UPSC exam by staying away from home in Delhi.

Pratibha failed in her first attempt and in her second attempt she secured the 489th rank and was selected for IRS but her ultimate dream was to become an IAS.

Even though she had become an IRS officer, her aim was IAS. She kept preparing for it and in her third attempt in 2019, she managed to become an IAS officer by securing the third rank in the UPSC exam.

Though Pratibha had several health issues, she was not bothered by them. In 2018 she got dengue and in 2019 she got typhoid. It was difficult to concentrate on her studies and her interview due to all this. After her interview was postponed by two months due to coronavirus she did power yoga and meditation and took special care of her food and got better. 

 

7. Her parents are teachers:

Pratibha's mother, Usha is a teacher in Verma Primary School, while her father Sudansh Verma teaches in Higher Secondary School. Pratibha's elder brother does a private job and his younger brother has done B.Tech. At the same time, his sister is a doctor.
