Mayank Agarwal's brilliant innings of 243 helped Team India reach 493 runs as day two action came to an end in Indore of the first Test match against Bangladesh at the Holkar Cricket Stadium on Friday.

The home side was on 493/6 when the umpire called stumps with Mayank's smashing a double century and Ajinkya Rahane scoring 86 runs.

The hosts are currently leading by 343 runs and still four wickets in hands after dismissing Bangladesh for 150/10 on day one.

On day two, India resumed play from 86/1 with Cheteshwar Pujara and Agarwal knitting together a 91-run partnership for the second wicket. 

However, Pujara (54) soon was sent back to the dressing room just moments after securing his half-century, and skipper Virat Kohli also joined him right after getting dismissed for a duck.

Ajinkya Rahane then quickly formed an understanding with Agarwal and created a massive stand of 190 runs for the fourth wicket. The due also shipped the Indian side past the 300-run mark in no time too.

Bangladesh's Abu Jayed soon removed Rahane, as his 86-run innings came to an end with India being reduced to 309/4.

Ravindra Jadeja joined Agarwal next, as the duo started playing some explosive cricket and formed a 123-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Agarwal also completed his second double ton in his eight Test matches for India. On his way to his 243, Mayank smashed eight sixes, record highest by any Indian cricketer in an inning.

However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz brought and end to Agarwal's knock in the 108th over as the opener left the field registering his highest score in the longest format of the game.

Wriddhiman Saha did not have a good outing, losing his wicket cheaply to Ebadat Hossain for 12 runs.

Jadeja and Umesh Yadav then started more aggressive cricket with Yadav scoring 25 runs off 10 deliveries and hitting three sixes on the way. The duo stayed unbeaten on 60 and 25 runs respectively and will be looking to add more when play resumes for day three, 

Abu Jayed picked up four wickets and Hossain and Miraz secured one wicket each as the Indian batsmen completely dominated the Bangladeshi bowlers on the day.

Cheteshwar Pujara also looked very good with the bat after a long time for India. The 31-year-old also stayed unbeaten on 43 runs off 61 balls. 

 

They resume play today with India trailing Bangladesh by 64 runs.
