Skipper Joe Root's double ton and Ben Stokes' 82 guided England to post 555 on day two of the first Test against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.

At stumps on day two, England's score read 555/8 in 180 overs with Dom Bess and Jack Leach still at the crease on 28 and 6 runs respectively.

In the final session, India bagged four wickets including the much-awaited dismissal of Root (218). Root also registered the highest score for a player playing in his 100th Test, breaking the record of former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq to achieve this feat

A look at the top 5 moments of Day 2.

1. Joe Root hits 5th double ton

Joe Root came down the track to Ravichandran Ashwin and launched him over long-on for a six as he notched up a fantastic double century.

Joe Root scored his fifth double century and he is now level with his former captain Alastair Cook who also has five double centuries to his name.

However, Joe Root trails Wally Hammond in the number of double centuries, with Hammond scoring seven 200+ scores in his career.

The England skipper thus became the first player in the history of Test cricket to score a double century in his 100th Test.

The previous highest score was 184 by Inzamam-ul-Haq during the Bangalore Test against India in 2005 which Pakistan won. Joe Root also became the first cricketer from England to reach his double century with a six.

2. Team India's misfielding

It was surely not Washington Sundar's day as the guy is wicketless and the two occasions where he could have gotten one was either not given by the umpire or Rohit Sharma dropped an easy catch.

Surely England's batting was spot on but the runs could have been lesser than the 555 if India's fielding was good.

The double ton by English skipper Joe Root helped England get 555 on the board. Captain Joe Root led from the front as he had continued his masterclass innings from yesterday onto Day 2.

His mammoth innings came to an end after the skipper was dismissed by Shahbaz Nadeem for 218. While he was walking back, Virat Kohli went towards him and shook hands with Root.

So on the second day, he made sure to keep the morale of his team-high and these are a few things netizens caught him saying.
