Javed Akhtar, born 17 January 1945 is a Hindi film poet, lyricist, screenwriter, and political activist. He was born and raised in the Gwalior area. Padma Shri (1999), Padma Bhushan (2007), the Sahitya Akademi Award, and five National Film Awards have all been bestowed upon him. He began his career as a screenwriter, writing screenplays for films such as ‘Deewar’, ‘Zanjeer’, and ‘Sholay’. Akhtar later switched his concentration away from filmmaking and into songwriting and social action.
