The Tri-Valley University was, reportedly, shut down by authorities on charges of running an illegal immigration racket.
Ministry of external affairs (MEA) has asked its mission in the USA to investigate the duping of Indian students by a California university and submit a report.

“We have asked for a report from our embassy and from our consulate general and when a report is issued, we will be taking it up with the US government. We have also instructed our missions to look into the aspect of students welfare and see what can be done,” said SM Krishna, external affairs minister. He, however, added that so far none of the affected students have approached the Indian consulate for help or deportation.
Meanwhile, the US state department spokesperson PJ Crowley said at a press conference in Washington that any activity involving visa fraud is of great concern to the US. “The investigation is being done by law enforcement, obviously with our cooperation, since we are the ones who issue visas,” Crowley said.
On a question that many students come on a student visa but never go to school or colleges or attend classes for two hours a week and hold $50-60,000 jobs, Crowley said that since 9/11, the US government has strengthened the tracking system, “so that if you come here on a student visa, you have to check in and you have to go to school. That is a requirement of that programme,” he said.
Hundreds of Indian students are believed to have been duped by the authorities of Tri-Valley University, near the San Francisco Bay area. Most of these Indian students are learnt to have been from Andhra Pradesh. According to a complaint filed in a US court, the university allegedly helped foreign nationals illegally acquire immigration status.
