Prachanda hopes to end parliamentary deadlock in Nepal

Maoist supremo Prachanda has said that prospects of breaking the parliamentary deadlock in Nepal has brightened after fresh talks with the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML leaders.

Saying he was ready to uphold the "civilian supremacy", Prachanda said the talk has raised the prospects of breaking the parliamentary stalemate.

"Unity and cooperation among the political parties is a must to save the country from a possible political catastrophe," he said.

But at the same time he warned that a consensus should be reached before October 7 or else "the government will collapse," hinting that the budget for fiscal year 2009-10 will not be allowed to be passed.

The Maoist chief, who had threatened to launch another people's revolution after the festive period, was optimistic of finding a solution to the current political crisis after a telephonic conversation with the top leaders of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML a few days ago.
