Pakistan wants cordial ties with others: Hina Rabbani Khar

Pakistan wants to have cordial ties with other countries without compromising on its national interests, said Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar.

Khar said Thursday Pakistan would formulate its policies, keeping in mind core objectives and national interests.

“We will make policies keeping in view core objectives, national interests and wishes of the people,” Associated Press of Pakistan quoted Khar as saying.

She said a two-day envoys’ conference discussed the modalities to re-evaluate the country’s policies, keeping in view national interests.

The conference was called after the US-led NATO fighter jets and helicopters carried out what Pakistani leaders viewed as an intentional attack on two border posts in the country's Mohmand tribal region bordering Afghanistan, leaving two dozen soldiers dead.

Islamabad angrily reacted to the attack as the military leadership said the NATO aircraft violated the "Red Lines" clearly defined to the coalition forces in Afghanistan. Pakistan military said that NATO had carried out eight strikes on Pakistani posts in three years, killing 72 soldiers and injuring hundreds of others.

Khar said Pakistan’s interests were defined in the conference besides discussing the way and means to achieve these objectives.

She said Pakistan wants to have cordial ties with other countries without compromising its national interests. 

She said recommendations of envoys' conference would be presented in parliament and the National Assembly's National Security Committee for final approval.
