Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan Thursday said the problem of terrorism that Pakistan is facing is "because of its partnership in the American war in Afghanistan".

Imran, the head of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, made the remarks during a meeting with US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter and former envoy Robin Raphael at the party's officer in Islamabad.

He said that while his party wants good relations with all countries, including the US, it "strongly believes that this partnership cannot be at the cost of Pakistan's national interest".

"If the US wants friendship with the people of Pakistan, it should stop violating its sovereignty through drone attacks and other incursions inside its territory," Imran said in a statement issued by the party.

He strongly condemned the "unprovoked attack" on two military border posts by NATO aircraft in which 24 Pakistani soldiers were killed last.

Imran and the US diplomats discussed "matters of mutual interest in the region".

The party further said it "does not believe in meeting foreign dignitaries in secret as some media reports have suggested".

The "canard of Imran Khan meeting senior American officials in Dubai is a complete fabrication", it said.
