Facebook has introduced a new tool which allows users to subscribe to 'interests' and people's updates and makes their news feeds appear more like 'personalised newspapers'.

The new feature allows users to create and subscribe to these interest lists such as recipes or sports teams.

It will be unveiled to 850 million users over the next few weeks, The Telegraph reports.

Many technology experts said that the new feature represents Facebook’s latest attempt to usurp Twitter by creating popular topics, which people can ‘follow’ in a similar fashion to the microblogging site.

Facebook users will find the ‘interest list’ tab through the home page’s left hand sidebar which on clicking, would reveal a new view entirely comprising stories from list's members.

Only a creator of a list can edit it and choose the privacy settings. Users can recommend lists to each other too.

A Facebook statement described the feature as “a new way to keep up with the stuff you care about and tidy up your experience…Interest Lists can help you turn Facebook into your own personalized newspaper”.
