14 die in New York tour bus crash

A tour bus carrying passengers from a Connecticut casino flipped over Saturday after being clipped by a tractor-trailer, killing 14 people, authorities said.

The 5.30am (1030 GMT) crash shut down part of the major East Coast interstate highway for hours near the Bronx, the New York city fire department said.

New York city police said 13 people died at the scene and one other died at the hospital, bringing the death toll to 14.

The fire department had said earlier a 15th person had died, but that information was incorrect.

Police said they were searching for the tractor trailer driver, who did not stop. The National Transportation and Safety Board was also investigating.

The charter bus carrying 32 passengers was returning to New York City from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.
