In what seems to be a massive setback to the terror group Islamic State (IS), its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has died, as per Radio Iran reports. Al Baghdadi had reportedly sustained severe injuries following an attack carried out by air strikes and has apparently succumbed to it.

According to an earlier Guardian report, al-Baghdadi was injured in an air strike carried out by a US coalition group in March. But while the report had said that al-Baghdadi's injuries were not fatal, he would take a long time to recover. Bur his aides believed his condition was serious and were planning to name a successor.

While are there no confirmations about the selection of a successor, his aides have taken over the role of strategic decision making, the report added.

The news of his death however will shake the IS leadership. The death will be a blow to the group which is now battling US led coalition in its territories, .
