A report revealed that former United States President Bill Clinton had spoken about having passed a chance to kill Osama Bin Laden just a day before the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attack.

Michael Kroger, a former President of the Victorian Liberal Party, presented a tape recording in which Clinton, while speaking to about 30 business leaders during a lunch in Australia, said that he did come across a chance to kill Laden once in Kandahar town of Afghanistan. However, he retracted his steps when he realized that the operation would require killing almost 300 civilians. He said that if he had not aborted the operation, he would not have been any better from Laden, reported the Politico.

Kroger said that Clinton was aware that his remarks were being recorded. According to the 9/11 Commission report, the Clinton administration had aborted plans to attack the Al Qaeda chief in the late 1990s because of concern over civilian deaths. Bin Laden was killed during a U.S raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan, where he was hiding, in May. 2011.
