Funny man Kapil Sharma is one of those very few celebs on Indian Television who've achieved the 'star' status and stardom owing to his craft and immense popularity. The comedian-turned-actor celebrates his birthday today, i.e., Apil 2nd. King of Comedy as his fans fondly call him, doesn't need an introduction today, but his journey to being so popular wasn't a bed of roses.
As Kapil turns a year older today, here's looking at five lesser known facts about him:
1) Kapil's real name is actually Kapil Punj, and not Kapil Sharma. He was born in Amritsar and his father was a head constable in Punjab Police while his mother is a homemaker.
2) Before making a successful foray into the world of Indian TV, Kapil was a part of a comedy show on a local Punjabi channel.
3) He went on to participate in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge (2007) and won the show. His antics as a police constable (remember where he got that from? Refer to point 1) were much appreciated and applauded. He then went on to win six seasons of Comedy Circus and made a name for himself.
4) While the world knows that Kapil made his Bollywood debut in the film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, turns out that that is not actually the case. Kapil's first role in a Bollywood film was in the 2010 film titled Bhavnao Ko Samjho, which was directed by comedian Sunil Pal.
5) Back in the year 2012, Kapil Sharma was ranked at the 69th spot in the Forbes India Celebrity list. Post that, his good work and popularity earned him the 11th rank in on the list in the yea 2016.
