Yasin Merchant, the first Indian to be ranked among the top 64 of world professional snooker and thrice national champion, played vintage snooker as he routed favourite Aditya Mehta 6-1 (86-51 55-20 73-40 59-39 75-34 01-84 54-17) to win the Alumni Club-Anna University All-India prize money snooker tournament on Sunday.

Yasin, who also pocketed a cheque of Rs1 lakh, was absolutely sublime on the green baize as he mesmerised Aditya into total submission with some fantastic potting and top-of-the-table snooker. Though Aditya made some mistakes, he had very few moments of glory as Yasin totally dominated in the one-sided affair. The match between 24-year-old Aditya and 43-year-old Yasin, ended in the triumph of the experience.

Meanwhile, national broadcaster Doordarshan goofed up with the live coverage despite taking the fee and making all arrangements.

“DD goofed up badly on the live coverage despite taking money and asking us to provide all the other facilities,” a livid tournament director E Sivakumar said.
