At least four North Korean footballers part of the World Cup team are facing a frighteningly uncertain future following their dismal performance during the tournament.

According to reports, the players may face a tough spell in the army, while coach Kim Jong-Hung could be kicked out of his job.

Kim Myong-won, An Chol-hyok, Kim Kyong-il and Pak Sung-hyok allegedly tried-and failed- to defect while in South Africa, The Daily Express reports.

“They are likely to be put into military training,” The newspaper quoted a South Korean embassy spokesman in London, as saying.

North Korea went home with no victories in the group stages, and a terrible goal difference.

They lost their Group G match to Portugal 0-7, followed by a 0-3 loss to Ivory Coast.
