Kushal Das to take charge as AIFF general secretary on Oct 15

Das, who is presently the CFO of IMG and Pricewaterhouse Coopers, beat Biwanjit Mitra, in the race to claim the top job in the federation.

Former chief financial officer of the ICC, Kushal Das, will be officially appointed the General Secretary of the All India Football Football Federation (AIFF) on October 15.

Das will succeed incumbent Alberto Colaco.

Das, who is presently the CFO of IMG and Pricewaterhouse Coopers, beat Biwanjit Mitra, in the race to claim the top job in the federation.

The decision to appoint Das was taken in an executive commitee meeting of the AIFF in Mumbai today. All the excutive committee members attended the meeting, which was chaired by president Praful Patel.

"The executive committee today approved the candidature of Das and welcomed the decison with a hope to bring in professionalism in the federation for the betterment of Indian football," a top AIFF official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

It was learnt that some officials within the AIFF were not happy with Colaco's style of working and wanted him to be replaced at the earliest.

"Many members in the AIFF felt that Colaco failed to deliver the desired results, and unfortunately, we are today struggling somwehere in the 160s in FIFA rankings," the official said.

"During Colaco's tenure, India hardly made any progress, the mebers felt," he said.

In June last year Colaco had stated his desire to quit the post after serving in the position for more than eight years. The 61-year-old Goan was appointed as general secretary of the AIFF in 2002.
