Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has hit back at Carlos Tevez by claiming that the striker is not worth 25 million pounds.

Ferguson also contradicted Tevez's claims that he was ignored at the end of the season.

The Argentine star had snubbed Manchester United's bid to make his two-year loan period permanent in favour of a transfer to rivals Manchester City.

"The fans quite rightly have their heroes and I respect the fans so I was happy to go along with a deal as long as it was the right deal. Our success is down to the fans and their support, we need them when we are away from home to the likes of Fulham and Arsenal but he was simply not worth 25 million pounds," The Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying.

Tevez blasted Ferguson on the day he joined City, claiming that he hardly spoke to him in his two years at Old Trafford and did not contact him at the end of the season in a bid to keep him.

But Ferguson insisted he not only spoke to Tevez, but also to then co-owner of the Argentinean star, Kia Joorabchian.

Ferguson said: "We made contact with Carlos, I sent him texts and spoke to him when he was in Argentina. David Gill made an offer to Kia so I spoke to Carlos before the Inter Milan game and said that we had spoken to Kia."
