Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has said that knocking defending champions Manchester United off their perch would be the biggest achievement of his career.

Hughes would be looking forward to destroy the dynasty of his mentor Sir Alex Ferguson during the much anticipated Manchester derby on Sunday.

“Would knocking United off their perch be my greatest achievement? Absolutely, because it’s a huge challenge,” The Sunday Express quoted Hughes, as saying.

Manchester United has been enjoying a successful stint in the recent Manchester Derby games, but this season the Blues have spent nearly 100 million pounds on some quality players, which could play a significant role in Hughes’ dreams.

The 45-year-old further recalled his memories from the late-80’s when he was a Manchester United player and Ferguson had placed the then all-conquering Liverpool in his sights and vowed to knock them off their own high perch.

Hughes, now, believes that the cycle has revolved all over and its time for Manchester United to be knocked off their perch.

“Things go in cycles. I was a Manchester United player when Liverpool dominated and it was very difficult to overcome them. It’s a different era now, but you still have cycles of success. Let’s hope it is us who change it because it will change,” Hughes said.
