The revelations of Britain mulling pullout from the Commonwealth Games may give IOA president Suresh Kalmadi a few more sleepless nights. But the CWG organising committee would hopefully have got things right for an event at which India has consistently done well.

For a country aspiring to host the Olympics, the CWG will be the sternest test yet. It is time when the acknowledged challenge be met with fire. Welcoming the 10,000 athletes and 400 officials, Delhi will have to make sure that India stands out on the world map with this event.

While CWG organising committee is somehow expected to complete the venues just before the event, there are a lot of logistical issues bothering the government. It’s the first time since the 1982 Asiad that India will play host to a high profile event. India’s record at the CWG has been quite good, winning medals across various sports. But countries like England and Canada, apart from traditional powerhouse Australia, look better than before.

But the most-anticipated announcement that will give the Games much-needed boost is expected from Usain Bolt. The Jamaican has made it clear that he will decide only next year but Kalmadi & Co. will leave no stone unturned to get him for the mega event.
