Badminton World Champions­hip: Jwala Gutta, Ashwini Ponnappa in second round

India's Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa made a winning start in the women’s doubles, beating Malaysian pair Eva Lee and Paula Lynn Obanana 21-9 21-18 in 23 minutes to reach the second round of the Badminton World Champions­hip in London.

Ajay Jayaram shocked 15^th seed Kenichi Tago in his men’s singles first round tie on Monday. Jayaram beat the seasoned Japanese 21-12 21-19 in 40 minutes.
