MUMBAI: Arya Vidya Mandir schools of Juhu and Bandra trounced their respective opponents in their under-16 third division matches, with Juhu boys netting seven past Hasanat and Bandra slotting home five past Bombay Cambridge.

AVM (Juhu) were up against Hasanat (Andheri) and the latter were playing a visibly under-aged side. Hasanat got off to a shaky start as the taller boys from Juhu took control of the game right from the start.

AVM looked like a tried and tested outfit as they played like a well-oiled unit well. Ishan Tripathi opened AVM’s account when the inexperienced Hasanat keeper fumbled the ball into his own net from a long range effort. Midfielder Rohan Khurana added two more to the scoresheet before half-time.

The second half saw the Andheri boys buck up and play a more flowing game. Aziz Jaundwala led from the front and looked promising as he often broke into the AVM back four and showed good ball control during his sprints. Murtuza Bhanpurwala went down in the box and Hasanat were awarded a penalty which Aziz duly converted.

In the next minute, forward Utkarsh Joshi was on target for the Juhu School and the floodgates had well and truly opened now for AVM. Hasanat did well in a counter-attacking move which saw the speedy Aziz break away from the lot and slot in a superb solo effort for his team’s second and final goal.

AVM didn’t stop at four goals though. Rohan Khurana would turn provider as his corner-kick to the far post was nodded in by Joshi. Aseem Patil would dutifully thump in AVM’s sixth of the match.

The icing on the cake though was Rohan Khurana’s third goal in the dying moments of the match which AVM won 7-2.

In the other match, the Bandra outfit were more water-tight in their defense as they steamrolled Bombay Cambridge (Andheri W) 5-0. Forward Yashraj Kshetry led from the front. He stood out as the best player of the match, scoring the first and fourth goals and setting up his mates in the box.

Umang Lalwani and Anshuman Kharga scored in quick succession to push BC into a point of no return. The final goal was scored by substitute Rahul Kakkad who took the most out of a defensive mix-up to seal an emphatic victory.
