Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that the club has sold Cesc Fabregas on the cheap after the midfielder finally completed his dream return to Barcelona.

According to The Sun, a fee believed to be £35.9 million plus add-ons had been agreed between Arsenal and Barcelona, while Fabregas is expected to pay Arsenal £4.5 million out of his own pocket over the next five years.

“We sold Cesc for a reduced fee. If Cesc is for sale and you can make an auction between Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City, you will certainly get more money, but he just wanted to go to Barcelona,” Wenger said.

“If he was on the market to any club we would have got more money, but we did want to get a decent fee,” he added.

Fabregas scored 57 goals in 303 appearances for Arsenal.

He had started his career as a trainee with Barcelona, but was signed by Arsenal in September 2003 at the age of 16.
