Rohit Sharma injured; Murali Vijay picked as replacement

Indian batsman Rohit Sharmahas been sidelined for the rest of the three ODIs and a T20 in England due to a fracture on the middle finger of his right hand. Sharma will be replaced by Murali Vijay, who flew back home after the conclusion of test series.

Vijay is expected to fly to England but it remains doubtful whether he will make it in time for Saturday's third one-day international at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Sharma sustained the injury while fielding during his team's 133-run triumph over the hosts in the second ODI in Cardiff on Wednesday.

Board of Control for Cricket in India  (BCCI) issued a statement saying: "Rohit Sharma has sustained a fracture on the middle finger of his right hand, and has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI and T20 International Series against England, as a result."

The BCCI clarified that the All-India senior selection panel had picked Murali Vijay as his replacement.

India's win in Cardiff sees the vistors go up 1-0 up in the five-match series.

Rohit was promoted to the top order in January 2013, and has had some success in the role, averaging 46.34, contributing to India's Champions Trophy success last year and becoming the third batsman to make an ODI double century.

The right-handed batsman scored 52 off 87 deliveries in the Cardiff match
