A team sans MS Dhoni, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, R Ashwin and Umesh Yadav would be judged as a weak Indian squad. The pacers, along with the Indian captain and spinning ace have been part of the team that won the Champions Trophy and tri-series in the Carribean.

The Indian selectors chose to rest these players and selected a team that is lead by Virat Kohli who has proved his mettle as captain as he lead the team in the absence of Dhoni during the tri-series contests that helped them make the final after a disastrous opening contest.

The 15-member Indian squad selected for the Zimbabwe tour that starts on July 24 boasts of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, Cheteshwar Pujara, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Mishra, Parvez Rasool, Mohammed Shami, Vinay Kumar, Jaidev Unadkat and Mohit Sharma.

Dhawan has been in the pink of form and will expect to play his shots against the African nation. Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik have played some cameo knocks in the last few matches and will look to play a match-winning role.

Ravindra Jadeja will look to sharpen his all-round ability as he grows as a vital players for India. Virat Kohli along with the captaincy will need to help his young squad to play as a team and get the best out of them as he leads by example with his batting and performance on the field.

Cheteshwar Pujara, Ambati Rayudu and Ajinkya Rahane will look for some form as they look to prove their mettle in the ODI format. Suresh Raina will be seeking to consolidate his place in the Indian team as his performances have been below par on a number of occasions.

Bowlers Parvez Rasool, Mohammed Shami and Jaidev Unadkat will look to impress as they get a chance to show their skill.

The team may not have much experience, but all players will be raring to go as they look to prove to selectors that they warrant a spot in the full-strength Indian team.

The 5 ODI contest between Zimbabwe and India will be a great test for the visiting team in conditions that will provide a challenge and suit the hosts more than them.
