Chelsea have appointed former Netherlands boss Guus Hiddink as the new interim manager until the end of the season following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

The defending EPL champions took to Twitter to confirm the news saying, "ChelseaFC can confirm Guus Hiddink has been appointed first-team manager until the end of the season."

Chelsea's embattled manager Mourinho was earlier sacked after a disastrous start to the ongoing Premier League season. The Portuguese manager, who led Chelsea to a Premier League and League Cup double last season, failed to display his magic again as the defending champions currently stand one point above the relegation zone after nine defeats in 16 games.

Mourinho was previously shown the door by Chelsea in 2007 after a successful three-year stint at the club in which he won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup. Chelsea also thanked Mourinho for his immense contribution since he returned as manager in the summer of 2013.
