Xiaomi launches the Mi 5s & Mi 5s Plus starting at $299

Both smartphones have been launched in China, and can be expected to make their way to India in the near future.

Xiaomi today launched their latest smartphones, the Mi 5s and it’s larger version, the Mi 5s Plus.

The Mi 5s has an aluminium unibody design with a brushed metal look and curved edges. It features a 5.15-inch full HD (1920x1080) display with a 12MP f/2.0 rear camera with PDAF and a 4MP large-pixel f/2.0 front camera. It sports a 2.15GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with 3GB/4GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage options. The device is powered by a 3200mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support and a fingerprint scanner on the front.

The Mi 5s Plus meanwhile has a 5.7-inch full HD (1920x1080) display with dual 13MP rear cameras and a 4MP front cam. The dual cameras here are similar to that of the Huawei P9, with one sensor capturing colour images and the other capturing light in black and white. It sports the same Snapdragon 821 processor, though the memory variants here are 4GB RAM/64GB storage and 6GB RAM/128GB storage. The battery is also larger here, featuring a 3800mAh cell, while the fingerprint scanner is on the rear panel of the device.

The Mi 5s is priced at RMB 1,999 (approximately US$299) for the 3GB/64GB and RMB 2,299 (US $344) for the 4GB/128GB variant. The Mi 5s Plus meanwhile will cost RMB 2,299 (US $344) for the 4GB/64GB variant and RMB 2,599 (US $389) for the 6GB/128GB model.
