Uber debuts gift cards for rides, starting at US $15

Uber has just announced that instead of just letting a friend hitch a ride with you, you can now do them a solid and just gift them a ride.

How does that work? Well, the company has just announced the launch of its gift card system, where you can buy vouchers to be redeemed for a taxi ride. The launch has so far been restricted to only the US. Cards start at $15, have no expiry date, and are valid for any Uber ride except UberEATS and UberRush. In addition, the voucher is not applicable to a user with a family profile, which lets up to 10 riders share one payment method.

The cards are currently only available in physical stores around the US, though they will eventually be sold online as well. No word yet on if and when the gift cards will be making their way to other countries. You can read the full announcement here.
