New Balance Zante Generate Running Shoes will be available from Friday but only the sportiest of sneaker fans should apply.

That's because prospective owners are going to need to be very fast indeed if they want to get a pair. Only 44 pairs are being made -- one for every year since current chairman Jim Davis bought the company.

"New Balance is at the forefront of 3D printing and has been utilising this exciting and innovative technology to customise a product for our athletes for a number of years," said New Balance President and CEO Robert DeMartini. "The Zante Generate demonstrates the strength of New Balance design and innovation and will allow consumers to own a piece of running technology history."

The very limited edition shoes boast a 3D-printed midsole and will cost $400 (Approx Rs 26,500) a pair when they go on sale at 09.00 EST, Friday, April 15 via the company's website or direct from its flagship Boston store.
