The Lumix GH5, a camera capable of retrieving 6K still images from ultra-high definition video has been announced by Panasonic for the first half of 2017.

The camera shoots material at between 4K and 6K resolution, offering ultra-high definition video and images to Lumix GH5 users. It's a technical advancement in comparison to the 2014 model GH4, which shot 4K video in 30p/25p, with the GH5 instead featuring 4K 60p/50p and 4K 30p with 4;2;2 10-bit -- a world first, says Panasonic. Photos saved from video using the GH5 can have up to 18-megapixel equivalent resolution.

Panasonic is to showcase the camera at the Photokina 2016 expo in Cologne, which runs September 20-25.
