Originally, Microsoft tried to purchase Slack for $8 billion, but the attempt failed. However, reports suggest that Microsoft is working on an app that will directly compete with Slack, in terms of features and functionality. The alleged messaging service will be developed under Skype’s brand and will be called Skype Teams.

According to a report by Mspoweruser, Skype Teams will include a lot of similar features which you find on Slack. The new app will allow you to chat in different groups within a team, along with the ability to talk to other members via Direct Messages on the app. In addition, Skype Teams will also offer Threaded Conversations, similar to comments on Facebook.

In other features, Skype Teams is expected to support Office 365 integration and will offer the ability to schedule online meetings, send GIFs, emojis and memes to other members in the group. Lastly, as this would be a product under Skype’s brand, it will include all features available presently in Skype, such as the ability to make video or voice calls, and more, points out the report.

The service will be available for Windows smartphones and web. The service is expected to roll out to Android and iOS as well. At the moment, a launch date has not been announced.
