Inventor unveils new exoskeleton to help patients walk again

California-based inventor Homayoon Kazerooni has unveiled a new exoskeleton that will allow paraplegics to walk, reports Zdnet.

With his company suitX robotics company, Kazerooni developed Phoenix, the lightest exoskeleton available at 27 pounds. And while it comes with a hefty price tag of $40,000, it is the least expensive exoskeleton on the market.

Kazerooni has been dedicated to restoring mobility to those with spinal cord injuries, and in 2011 offered one of his suits to test pilot Austin Whitney, who was injured in a car accident.

suitX recently won the top award of $1 million at the Robotics for Good competition after presenting a project to develop a pediatric version of the exoskeleton.
