Haryana achieves elimination of leprosy status

Haryana has achieved the "Elimination of Leprosy" status which in determined if the incidence of this affliction is less than one case per 10,000 of population in the state.

Haryana has achieved the "Elimination of Leprosy" status which in determined if the incidence of this affliction is less than one case per 10,000 of population in the state.
   
Stating this today, Haryana Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Health, Anuradha Gupta said that this benchmark has ben fixed by the Union Health Minister for declaring any state or Union Territory having achieved this distinction.
   
The prevalence rate in Haryana was 0.18 per 10,000 population on March 31, 2009, the second lowest in the country after Meghalaya, Daman and Diu.
   
At the close of last fiscal, there were 456 leprosy affected
patients under treatment in the state.
   
Gupta said that constant vigilance was kept on all the 456 cases of leprosy in the state.
   
Workers of the health department along with Deputy Chief Medical Officers (Leprosy) visit all the 19 lepra colonies where all the medical facilities are being provided.
   
These colonies include five authorized colonies in Ambala city, Faridabad, Jagadhari, Karnal and Rohtak and 14 self-settled colonies in 11 districts of the state namely Ambala,

Hisar, Yamuna Nagar, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Gurgaon, Sirsa,
Jhajjar, Kaithal, Hisar and Sonepat.
